One of the oldest cities in the U.S., Boston blends Colonial history with contemporary style. This narrow street in the famous Beacon Hill area is a joy to stroll.

The Town of Holliston (near Boston)

Holliston is located between Boston and Providence and is just 90 minutes from Cape Cod and 2 1/2 hours from the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Our house, circa 1850

We live in a three-bedroom antique Colonial located in Holliston, a small town 25 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts. The house is within walking distance of the town center, where you can poke around in the antiques shops and visit Fiske's General Store on Washington Street. Holliston makes an ideal base for touring Massachusetts and all of southern New England, including the historic city of Providence, less than an hour away.

Alexander, 11, a friend from New York City, calls our backyard "the park."

Our family

We're a family of four. Robert is a media producer for Roundtable and Hannah is a writer for Wheaton College. Our son Mischa and daughter Emma are college students.

Friendly felines Chester and Zuzu complete the family.
An extra pic of Emma,
'cause she's cool.

Lake and sea

Holliston's Lake Winthrop, just a mile from our house, is a fine place for a swim and a picnic after a day of touring the Boston area. A 75-minute drive takes you to the pristine ocean beaches of Cape Cod (below).

The living room

Turn on the AC and relax. Pick up a good book or plug in to cable TV, a movie on DVD or music on the CD player. We never run out of acronyms!

The dining room

The room has a table that seats eight. The doorway at the rear leads to our study, which has a computer and a sofa that opens to sleep one. (The upstairs bedrooms sleep four.)

Our front entrance, decorated in celebration of Halloween (October 31, 2004) and the Boston Red Sox' first World Series championship in 86 years. Yes!!

White Mountains of New Hampshire

Bob on a day hike, near the summit of Zealand Mountain, in New Hampshire—a 3-hour drive from our house. And the hike? Well...
